Property in Pakistan is advertised in marla and kanal, but building plans, apartments and many agreements use square feet. To compare prices fairly or check a plot’s size, you need to convert square feet to marla, and you must know which marla size is being used. This guide explains both standards, with examples and a chart. Our free Square Feet to Marla converter lets you pick the standard.
Two marla standards
| Standard | 1 marla equals | Commonly used in |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue (traditional) | 272.25 sq ft | Land revenue records, many rural areas |
| Society / municipal | 225 sq ft | Many housing societies and development authorities |
Some authorities have used 250 sq ft as well. Always confirm the standard on the allotment letter or with the society.
The formula
marla = square feet ÷ marla size
Examples
A plot of 2,250 sq ft:
- At 225 sq ft: 2,250 ÷ 225 = 10 marla
- At 272.25 sq ft: 2,250 ÷ 272.25 = 8.26 marla
A 1,125 sq ft plot is 5 marla in a 225 sq ft society, but only about 4.13 marla by revenue measurement.
Quick chart (225 sq ft marla)

Comparing prices
To compare plots in different societies, convert both to price per square foot. A 10 marla plot for Rs 20 million in a 225 sq ft society costs Rs 8,889 per sq ft; the same price for 10 revenue marla (2,722.5 sq ft) is Rs 7,346 per sq ft.
