“Upload your photograph (max 50 KB)” and “signature (max 20 KB)” are common instructions on Pakistani job portals, university admission forms and government applications. Phone photos are thousands of KB, so you need to shrink them a lot. This guide shows how to reduce photo size to common limits, step by step, with our Image Compressor and Image Resizer.
Why such small limits?
Portals receive huge numbers of applications, and small files keep systems fast. A passport-style photo does not need many pixels to be clear on screen.
Step 1: Crop first
Crop to head and shoulders on a plain background. A typical passport ratio is 35 × 45 mm. Use the Image Cropper with that ratio.
Step 2: Resize to suitable dimensions
| Target | Suggested size |
|---|---|
| Photo, 100 KB | about 600 × 770 px |
| Photo, 50 KB | about 400 × 515 px |
| Photo, 20 KB | about 300 × 385 px |
| Signature, 20 KB | about 400 × 150 px |
If the form gives exact dimensions, use those instead.
Step 3: Compress
Start at 80% quality. Check the file size. Lower the quality in small steps until you are just under the limit. A 400 × 515 px JPG usually fits under 50 KB at a medium quality setting.
Signatures
- Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper.
- Photograph it in good light, straight above.
- Crop tightly around the signature.
- Convert to grayscale or high contrast if the form allows.
- Resize and compress to the limit.
Format
Most portals want JPG. If your phone saved a HEIC or PNG, convert it first with the Image Converter.
Check before uploading
- Face clearly visible, eyes open, neutral background
- File name simple, such as “photo.jpg”, if the portal is picky
- Size and dimensions within the stated limits
Still rejected?
Some portals check exact pixel dimensions or DPI. Re-read the instructions. For the general method of compressing without visible loss, see how to compress an image.
