You no longer need a scanner for most online applications. A modern phone camera can produce clear document scans, if you know a few tricks. This guide explains how to scan documents with your phone for university, job and government portals, and how to turn them into a tidy PDF with our JPG to PDF tool.
Step 1: Prepare the document
Flatten folded papers under a heavy book for a while. Remove plastic covers if they cause glare, unless the document must stay laminated.
Step 2: Get the light right
Natural daylight near a window is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which causes harsh shadows. Turn off the flash to prevent glare spots, especially on laminated CNICs and degrees.
Step 3: Hold the phone straight
Position the phone directly above the document so the edges look like a rectangle, not a trapezium. Many camera apps show a grid to help. Tap to focus on the text.
Step 4: Use a scanner mode if available
Some phone camera and notes apps have a document scan mode that detects edges and straightens the page automatically.
Step 5: Crop and straighten
Remove the background so only the document shows. Our Image Cropper lets you crop to the edges, and the Image Resizer sets exact pixel sizes if a form asks for them.
Step 6: Check size limits
Portals often set limits such as 200 KB per image or 2 MB per PDF.
| Requirement | Tool |
|---|---|
| Under a KB limit | Image Compressor |
| Exact pixel size | Image Resizer |
| Specific format (JPG only) | Image Converter |
Step 7: Combine into one PDF
If several pages must be uploaded together, combine them in the right order with the JPG to PDF tool. Name the file clearly, such as “Ali-Raza-Documents.pdf”.
Step 8: Check readability
Zoom in on the final file. Can you read the CNIC number, dates and grades clearly? If not, rescan with better light.
Privacy
Your CNIC and certificates contain personal information. Use tools that process files on your device, avoid public computers, and delete copies from shared devices afterwards. For the conversion steps, see how to convert JPG to PDF.
