What is the Net Run Rate (NRR) Calculator?

When teams finish level on points, net run rate (NRR) usually decides who goes through to the semi-finals. The calculator adds runs scored and overs faced across all matches and subtracts the opposition's run rate.

Add one row per match. If a team is bowled out, its innings counts as the full quota of overs, as per ICC rules. For a single innings, the Run Rate Calculator is quicker.

How to use the Net Run Rate (NRR) Calculator

  1. Add a row for each match.
  2. Enter runs scored and overs faced.
  3. Enter runs conceded and overs bowled.
  4. Tick all out where needed.
  5. Read the tournament NRR.

Formula

NRR = (total runs scored ÷ total overs faced) − (total runs conceded ÷ total overs bowled)

Example

A team scores 320 in 40 overs and concedes 300 in 40 overs over two T20s: NRR = 8.00 − 7.50 = +0.500.

Overs and balls: 4.3 is not 4.3

In cricket, 4.3 overs means 4 overs and 3 balls, which is 27 balls or 4.5 "real" overs, not 4.3. All our cricket calculators convert overs to balls correctly (overs × 6 + balls). Enter overs in the usual cricket way and the maths is handled for you.

NRR rules to remember

  • If a team is all out, the full quota of overs (20 or 50) is used.
  • In DLS-shortened matches, adjusted overs and targets are used.
  • No-result matches are excluded.
  • NRR is a total over the tournament, not an average of match NRRs.
