Running Distances: 5K, 10K, Half and Full Marathon in Miles

KM to Miles Converter – free online tool guide

Fun runs and marathons are growing in Pakistani cities, and many runners follow training plans written in miles while races are measured in kilometres. This guide converts common running distances, explains pace per km and per mile, and shows how to use our KM to Miles Converter converter and Online Stopwatch for training.

Race Kilometres Miles
5K 5 3.11
10K 10 6.21
Half marathon 21.0975 13.1
Marathon 42.195 26.2

Pace: per km vs per mile

Pace is the time to cover one unit of distance. To convert:

pace per mile = pace per km × 1.609

A pace of 6:00 per km equals about 9:39 per mile. A pace of 10:00 per mile equals about 6:13 per km.

Finish time from pace

finish time = pace × distance

At 6:00 per km, a 10K takes 60 minutes and a half marathon about 2 hours 6 minutes. Use the Time Calculator to add up split times accurately.

Speed vs pace

Treadmills often show speed in km/h or mph. A speed of 10 km/h is a pace of 6:00 per km. Convert speeds with the Speed Converter.

Planning training

Beginner 5K plans often build from run-walk intervals over 6 to 8 weeks. Time intervals with a Online Stopwatch or the online timer and increase distance by small steps each week, commonly no more than about 10% a week to reduce injury risk.

Measuring your route

Phone apps and GPS watches measure distance, but they can be off by a few percent, especially between tall buildings. Measured race courses are certified to be accurate, so do not worry if your watch says 10.2 km at the end of a 10K.

Converting other distances

For any distance, use the formula in how to convert km to miles.

Sample finish times

Pace per km 5K 10K Half marathon
5:00 25:00 50:00 1:45:29
6:00 30:00 1:00:00 2:06:35
7:00 35:00 1:10:00 2:27:41

Most first-time runners finish a 5K somewhere between 25 and 40 minutes. Do not worry about the clock in your first race; finishing comfortably is the real goal.
