The method
Days since = today’s date − past date
Count the days left in the starting month, add the full months in between and add today’s day number.
Example
From 1 January 2020 to 10 October 2026:
- Full years 2020 to 2025: 2,192 days (including leap days in 2020 and 2024)
- 1 January to 10 October 2026: 282 days
- Total: 2,474 days
That is about 353 weeks, or 6 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Leap years matter for long periods
Over short periods, leap years rarely matter. Over several years, each 29 February adds a day. Between 2020 and 2026 there were two leap days (2020 and 2024), which is why six years came to 2,192 days rather than 2,190. The calculator adds them automatically, so long counts such as “days since I started working here” stay exact.
