Gold is weighed in different units depending on where you are. Pakistan’s market uses the tola, the Gulf and most of the world use grams, and international prices are quoted per troy ounce. Gemstones add another unit, the carat, which is easily confused with gold purity (karat). This guide compares gold weight units and their conversions, with our free Gold Weight Converter.

Comparing local and world prices
If gold is $2,400 per troy ounce and $1 = Rs 280:
- Per ounce: 2,400 × 280 = Rs 672,000
- Per tola: 672,000 ÷ 2.6667 = Rs 252,000
Local prices also include premiums, duties and market conditions, so they can differ from this figure. Convert dollars with the USD to PKR tool.
Gulf gold
Many Pakistanis buy gold in Dubai or Saudi Arabia, where prices are per gram. Multiply the per-gram rate by 11.664 to compare with a tola rate.
