Wheat procurement prices, sugarcane rates and grain market quotes in Pakistan are often given per maund (mann). Meanwhile, shops, exporters and government reports use kilograms and tonnes. This guide explains how many kg are in a maund, the older traditional value, and how to convert prices, with our free Maund (Mann) to KG converter.
The answer
In Pakistan’s markets and official crop prices today, 1 maund = 40 kg.
The traditional maund
Historically, the British Indian maund was 82.28 pounds, about 37.32 kg, made of 40 seers of about 0.933 kg each. After metrication, the market maund was rounded to 40 kg, with 1 seer = 1 kg.
| Unit | Traditional | Modern market |
|---|---|---|
| 1 maund | 37.32 kg | 40 kg |
| 1 seer | 0.933 kg | 1 kg |
| Seers in a maund | 40 | 40 |
Conversion table
| Maunds | Kg | Tonnes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 40 | 0.04 |
| 5 | 200 | 0.2 |
| 10 | 400 | 0.4 |
| 25 | 1,000 | 1 |
| 50 | 2,000 | 2 |
| 100 | 4,000 | 4 |
So 25 maunds make one metric tonne.
Converting prices
Price per kg = Price per maund ÷ 40
Example: if wheat is Rs 3,900 per maund, the price per kg is 3,900 ÷ 40 = Rs 97.50.
Price per tonne = Price per maund × 25 = Rs 97,500.
Smaller units
Some older markets still mention the chhatank (one-sixteenth of a seer). In modern terms, with 1 seer = 1 kg, a chhatank is 62.5 g.
Crop yields
Farmers often talk in maunds per acre. 40 maunds per acre = 1,600 kg per acre, or about 3.95 tonnes per hectare. Read crop yield conversion and use Acres to Hectares.
International comparisons
For pounds, 1 maund (40 kg) = 88.2 lb. See KG to LBS Converter.

Everyday use
In homes, flour and rice are now bought in kg bags, but people still say “a maund of wheat” when storing grain for the year.
