What is the VAT Calculator?
VAT (value-added tax) and GST (goods and services tax) are added to most prices. Businesses often need to add tax to a quote, or work backwards from a tax-inclusive price to find the net amount. The VAT calculator does both.
Enter the amount and rate: 18% for Pakistan's standard sales tax, 5% for the UAE, 15% for Saudi Arabia or 20% for the UK. For a full list of countries use VAT Calculator by Country.
How to use the VAT Calculator
- Choose Add VAT or Remove VAT.
- Enter the amount.
- Enter the VAT/GST rate.
- Read net, tax and gross amounts.
Formula
Gross = Net × (1 + rate) · Net = Gross ÷ (1 + rate) · Tax = Gross − Net
Example
Adding 18% to Rs 1,000 gives Rs 1,180. Removing 18% from Rs 1,180 gives back Rs 1,000 (tax Rs 180). Removing 18% by subtracting 18% of 1,180 would wrongly give Rs 967.60.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net price by (1 + rate). Rs 500 + 18% = 500 × 1.18 = Rs 590.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by (1 + rate). Rs 590 ÷ 1.18 = Rs 500.
Why can't I just subtract 18%?
The tax was calculated on the net price, not the gross, so subtracting 18% of the gross removes too little.
What is the sales tax rate in Pakistan?
The standard federal sales tax on goods is 18%; services are taxed by provinces at different rates.
