Big expenses rarely come as a surprise. Weddings, Umrah, school admissions, a car down payment: we usually know the date months ahead. A monthly savings plan turns a scary total into a manageable amount. This guide shows how to build one with our Months Until Calculator calculator and other free tools.
Step 1: Set the target amount
Write down the full cost. For costs more than a year away, add a margin for rising prices, say 8% to 10% a year.
Step 2: Count the months
Use the months-until calculator to see how many full months remain before the date.
Step 3: Divide
Monthly saving = target ÷ months left
Rs 600,000 for Umrah in 15 months = Rs 40,000 a month.
Step 4: Include returns if you invest
If your savings earn profit, you need a little less each month. The Compound Interest Calculator shows how monthly deposits grow, so you can find the right amount.
Example plans
| Goal | Target | Months | Monthly saving (no returns) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car down payment | Rs 900,000 | 18 | Rs 50,000 |
| Wedding | Rs 1,500,000 | 24 | Rs 62,500 |
| School admission | Rs 150,000 | 6 | Rs 25,000 |
Make it automatic
Set a standing order on salary day so savings move before spending starts. The Salary Day Countdown shows your next payday.
When plans change
If the date moves earlier, increase the monthly amount or reduce the goal. If you receive a bonus, add it to the fund and reduce future monthly amounts.
Separate accounts
Keep each goal in a separate account or envelope. Mixing goal money with daily spending makes it disappear.

Daily and weekly versions
Some people find a smaller, more frequent number easier. Rs 40,000 a month is roughly Rs 9,200 a week or Rs 1,320 a day. If you are paid daily or weekly, or run a small business with daily cash, saving on that rhythm can feel more natural than one large monthly transfer.
