A salary of 3,000 dollars a month sounds enormous when converted into rupees. But living in London, Dubai or Toronto costs far more than living in Lahore. To decide wisely, you need to compare what you can actually save and the life you will live. This guide shows how to compare a salary abroad vs Pakistan fairly, using our International Salary Calculator.
Step 1: Convert to one currency
Convert the foreign salary into rupees at the current rate. Keep in mind that rates change, so test a few rates to see how sensitive your plan is.
Step 2: Subtract tax and deductions
| Country | Income tax on salary |
|---|---|
| UAE, Saudi Arabia | No personal income tax on salaries |
| UK | Income tax and National Insurance |
| Canada, USA | Federal and state or provincial taxes |
| Pakistan | Progressive slabs; see the FBR Salary Tax Calculator 2026-27 |
Step 3: Subtract living costs
List realistic monthly costs in the foreign city: rent, utilities, transport, food, phone, insurance and, for families, schooling. Housing is usually the biggest item.
Step 4: Compare savings
Monthly savings = net salary − living costs
Example (illustrative):
| Pakistan job | Gulf job | |
|---|---|---|
| Net salary (PKR equivalent) | Rs 300,000 | Rs 750,000 |
| Living costs | Rs 180,000 | Rs 450,000 |
| Monthly savings | Rs 120,000 | Rs 300,000 |
Here the Gulf job saves more, but the gap is smaller than the salaries suggest.
Step 5: Non-money factors
- Family: can they join you, and at what cost?
- Career growth and skills
- Job security and visa conditions
- Quality of life, climate and community
Benefits change the picture
