Per Day Salary Calculation: For Leave, Joining and Final Settlement

Salary Calculator – free online tool guide

When you join a company mid-month, take unpaid leave or leave a job, your pay for that month is calculated per day. Different employers use different methods, which can change the amount by hundreds or thousands of rupees. This guide explains the common methods for per day salary and how to check your figure with our Salary Calculator.

Method 1: Fixed 30 days

Many employers divide the monthly salary by 30, whatever the month.

Per day salary = monthly salary ÷ 30

For Rs 120,000: 120,000 ÷ 30 = Rs 4,000 per day.

Method 2: Actual days in the month

Some divide by the actual number of days in that month: 28, 29, 30 or 31.

  • October (31 days): 120,000 ÷ 31 = Rs 3,871
  • February (28 days): 120,000 ÷ 28 = Rs 4,286

Method 3: Working days only

A few employers divide by working days, such as 22 or 26, especially for daily-wage or factory staff. This gives a higher daily rate but counts only days actually worked.

Joining mid-month

You join on 18 October with a Rs 120,000 salary. You are paid for 14 days (18 to 31 October).

Method October pay
30-day 14 × 4,000 = Rs 56,000
Actual days 14 × 3,871 = Rs 54,194

Unpaid leave

Three days of leave without pay on a Rs 90,000 salary using the 30-day method: 3 × 3,000 = Rs 9,000 deducted.

Final settlement

When you leave, the final month is calculated per day, plus any unused leave encashment, gratuity or provident fund according to policy. Count your last working days carefully; the Date Difference Calculator counts days between two dates, including or excluding the end date.

Which method is “right”?

The method should be written in your contract or company policy. Labour laws set minimum standards, but the exact per-day method is usually an employer policy. Ask HR which one they use.

Hourly rate

For overtime, you may need an hourly rate. Divide the daily rate by the normal working hours per day, or use the Hourly ↔ Monthly Salary calculator. For a full breakdown of a salary into all periods, read annual, monthly and hourly salary.

From gross to take-home

The per-day figures above usually start from gross salary. To see how tax, EOBI and provident fund reduce it to what reaches your account, read gross vs net salary. For your tax specifically, the FBR Salary Tax Calculator 2026-27 gives the monthly deduction.
